Apply for Internships, Work Experience & Learning CoursesMost companies will offer work experience and/or work internships, especially larger companies. Many will advertise these opportunities directly on their websites and/or post them on job search websites such as Gradcracker andOxford Careers Connect. If you are interested in working for a particular company but it does not advertise any opportunities online, it is still worth reaching out to them to see if they could arrange for you to gain some work experience with them. You can often do this through filling in a form on their website, by emailing someone in their Human Resources department or by connecting through LinkedIn/emailing specific employees that you would be interested in working with/shadowing. For more information click here.
If you're interested in spending your vacation doing research and/or you are interested in pursuing a career in academia, you can also gain some fantastic experience working as a research assistant. To do this you should look for a potential supervisor (a Professor) who's research you'd be interested in assisting with, and then email these potential supervisors directly to ask if you might be able do a work placement with them or if they have any work you can help them with. When getting in touch with a potential employer or supervisor directly, always make sure to attach an up-to-date CV tailored to the role/organisation as well as a cover letter explaining why you're interested in the role and/or gaining experience with them/their organisation.
