Many of our events are focused on inspiring and helping our members to further discover and explore their earth science passions outside of the course, as well as future career opportunities. Such events include seminars, given by both external and internal speakers, conferences, the annual Careers Fair, field trips and more! Within the department we are an incredibly close-knit community, so many of our events are designed to provide opportunities for our members to meet and form connections with students from different year groups, as well as to solidify intra-year friendships. We host a variety of social events throughout the year, such as formal dinners, barbecues, picnics, pub quizzes, our ‘Inaccurate Geology Film Nights’, and of course our much beloved termly cocktail evenings, fondly termed ‘Rocktails’, so there’s really something for everyone to get involved with! In addition we run various sports events throughout the year, most notably ‘GeoVarsity’, our annual grudge match against our Cambridge Earth Scientist counterparts.
Whether you’re a current student, an incoming student, or just interested in what we do, please feel free to explore our website to find out more about all things OUGS, including how to get involved, upcoming events, news, advice and a variety of resources for you to use throughout your degree. In particular if you’re a prospective student make sure to check out our Alternative Prospectus for student insights and advice on the course and life in Oxford! If you have any ideas, questions, or concerns to share with the Committee at any time, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us. Despite the unprecedented and unpredictable year that lies ahead of us, our Committee is already well underway planning some great events for you to enjoy, so stay tuned and we really hope you’re as excited as we are about this upcoming academic year!
