Why Join?The Oxford University Geological Society is well renowned across Oxford for being one of the most fun and tight-knit student societies, and there are so many reasons to get involved which include, but aren't limited to:
If you are still unsure about becoming a member, please do reach out to exisiting members of OUGS or to this year's Committee Members to ask any questions or find out more about the Society in general and make sure to follow us on our social media pages (accessible via the home page). In addition non-members are still welcome to come to most of our events (however often at an additional fee) so do come along to see if you'd like to become an official member of OUGS! Membership FeeThe current fee to join is £30 but this will provide you with lifetime membership.
This fee goes towards the total running costs of OUGS, which includes paying event venue fees, providing sport equipment for various sporting events, covering the traveling costs of speakers, as well as towards subsidising the costs of and providing FREE refreshments at every event we run. |

Signing Up
Freshers
If you are joining the University of Oxford as a new Earth Sciences undergraduate student (fresher) this year, the President will be giving a talk to introduce you to the society during your Fresher's Week so you will be able to sign up easily then. If you are a newly incoming postgraduate student or you wish to take some more time to decide if you would like to become an OUGS member, then please fill in the form on the right or contact the Treasurer directly. There will be a Meet the Committee event for all new students at the beginning of Michaelmas Term where you will have the opportunity to meet and directly ask the Committee members any questions that you might have about the Society, so do keep an eye on your university email for more information about that! In addition all Freshers will also be able to attend their first Rocktails completely FREE! Existing Undergraduate and Postgraduate Students If you are an undergraduate or postgraduate student currently studying Earth Sciences you can become an official member of OUGS at any time throughout the duration of your degree. To do so please fill in the form on the right or contact the Treasurer directly. Once we've received your membership request, we'll contact you as soon as possible with details on how to bank transfer us your one-off membership fee. If you would prefer instead to pay in cash or cheque please see the section below. Paying Your Membership Free To pay the one-off membership fee you can either place £30 (in cash or a cheque) within a sealed envelope in the OUGS pigeonhole located within the department. Make sure to address it to the Oxford University Geology Society Treasurer and mark it clearly with your name and year group so we can process your payment and confirm your membership as soon as possible. If you would prefer instead to pay via a bank transfer, please make sure to fill in the form on the right and we will send you the bank account details as soon as possible. |
