AIR Worldwide
AIR Worldwide (AIR) is the scientific leader and most respected provider of risk modeling software and consulting services. AIR founded the catastrophe modeling industry in 1987 and today models the risk from natural catastrophes and terrorism in more than 90 countries. Companies all over the world rely on AIR software and consulting to mitigate the chances of financial catastrophe—the kind that results from earthquakes, hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, drought, bushfire or terrorist attacks. At AIR, scientists and engineers capture the physical characteristics of disasters and their impacts in mathematical form. Our software engineers transform these sophisticated models into user-friendly applications to assess the risk. Our consultants work one-on-one with clients to fashion effective risk management and risk mitigation strategies. AIR is a member of the Verisk Insurance Solutions group at Verisk Analytics (NASDAQ:VRSK) and is headquartered in Boston with additional offices in North America, Europe, and Asia.
Today, AIR catastrophe modeling is being used by insurers, corporate risk managers, investors, mortgage underwriters, and government officials. While initially conceived as a way to manage risk in countries with established insurance markets, today our solutions are also being used to help developing countries plan for, react to, and recover from the potentially devastating effects of catastrophes. AIR’s solutions are needed now more than ever.
There's no limit to what you can do at AIR. You’ll be part of a global organization where every individual has the opportunity to make a valuable—and valued—contribution. Our people are smart, creative, and client-focused. And they bring a broad range of expertise to the table. You’ll work with meteorologists, seismologists, hydrologists, climate scientists, structural engineers, mathematicians, actuaries, software and QA engineers, business development professionals, marketing and product managers, science writers and media specialists, among others. Our approach to training and education is comprehensive. We provide the learning, tools, and coaching that you’ll need to enrich your career and deliver the best results to our clients. In exchange for bringing your best to every project that comes your way and delivering results of exceptional quality, you deserve to be rewarded. The benefits we offer—from comprehensive healthcare coverage to annual bonuses to investing for retirement—are designed to help our people meet their broader life needs, wherever they might be around the world and whatever their circumstances.

AWE
Formerly part of the Ministry of Defence, AWE Blacknest has, for over 40 years, been researching techniques to distinguish the seismic signals generated by underground nuclear explosions from those generated by earthquakes. This expertise has been used in the past to provide assessments for the UK Government on nuclear test explosions carried out by other countries. Geophysical technologies are a cornerstone of the verification system for the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty (CTBT), which, on entry into force, bans all nuclear test explosions. Blacknest is now the UK National Data Centre for the CTBT, and we carry out and publish research on seismological and infrasound verification methods. We are interested in developing our expertise in methods such as shallow-earth geophysics and InSAR, which may play a role in the On-Site Inspection aspect of CTBT verification.

Environment Agency
The Environment Agency is responsible for an enormous range of activities; much of this requires specialist skills including hydrogeology. We have many roles for hydrogeologists ranging from water resource to water quality and contaminated land.
Water resources hydrogeologists consider quantitative aspects: it's all about balance in the water cycle, that each part gets its fair share. Hydrogeologists study water quality to investigate anthropogenic activity, leading to the protection aquifers. This country has a legacy of industrialisation and the impact of this upon the environment and modern society is managed by hydrogeologists specialising in contaminated land.
There are investigative roles at a local county level; broader matters are handled at regional level while more strategic considerations are managed nationally. Opportunities exist at many levels, from graduates to those with experience. Continued professional development forms part of training for all - officers need to keep up technical challenges.
We maintain relationships with the hydrogeological profession - involving universities, research institutions and technical consultants. Hydrogeologists are expected to work with local communities, councils and governments to ensure that we "help protect the environment and to enhance its quality" and "pursue sustainable development in the interests of society".
